Built by a rider.
Safe Streets Map is built by Nando, a software developer who grew up in Los Angeles and has been riding there for decades, on a Ritchey Swiss Cross bike and a Honda CB500F motorcycle.
Crashes come from the state's crash records, roads from OpenStreetMap and forecasts from the National Weather Service. Many city police reports have no location, so some cities are undercounted, and the site says so wherever it matters.
